Childrens Party Entertainment in Melbourne

Booking a Kids Party Entertainer: What to Know

Melbourne's kids' entertainers fall into a few clear camps: characters who arrive in costume, a magician with a show to watch, and a DJ who turns the lounge room into a dance floor. Every business on this page travels to all regions of the city, so you can choose by what the children will enjoy rather than by postcode.

Amazing Ashley performs a children's magic show with live animals on stage – doves, a rabbit, a guinea pig and a hen – which tends to hold a mixed-age audience. Kidz Party Discos runs an interactive DJ set with its own sound system and disco lighting, picks music to suit the age group with no explicit lyrics, and takes song requests on the day. A photo booth with an attendant and instant prints can be added.

For character parties, Melbourne Fairy Parties (From $160) sends fairies, princesses, unicorns and superheroes with magic, games and face painting, and Little Party Faces (From $200) brings costumed performers with games, face painting and balloon twisting.

Pick by what the children will spend the party doing:

Watching a show: Amazing Ashley's magic with animals
Dancing: Kidz Party Discos, with lighting and dance games
Meeting a character: Melbourne Fairy Parties or Little Party Faces
Taking something home: painted faces or balloon shapes from Little Party Faces

For more ideas, see magicians or party decorations to dress the room.

Preschool to eight: character parties from Melbourne Fairy Parties are pitched at this group
Up to twelve: Little Party Faces and Kidz Party Discos both list the tween band
Wide age spread: a show the whole group can watch, such as Amazing Ashley's, keeps everyone together

Briefing your entertainer

Send the birthday child's name and age so they can be the centre of attention
Say how many children are coming and whether the party is indoors or outside
Check how much floor space a disco or a magic show needs
Ask whether games are included or an add-on

Working with the party space

At a park, Little Party Faces' battery speakers mean no hunt for a power point
Ask Kidz Party Discos what power its sound and lighting gear needs
Tell Amazing Ashley about any pets at home before an animal show
