A private dining room gives a group its own door, its own table and staff who look after nobody else, without the cost of taking over a whole venue. In Brisbane these rooms sit inside pubs, hotels and restaurants, and they usually seat between 10 and 30 guests.
Most are booked on a minimum spend rather than a hire fee. That figure is what the table must spend on food and drinks, and everything ordered counts towards it.
What shapes the cost:
For a larger group or a stand-up crowd, compare birthday party venues and the wider list of Brisbane function venues.

It is the amount your group agrees to spend on food and drinks in the room. There is no separate hire fee, but if the bill comes in under the figure the venue charges the difference.
Most seat between 10 and 30 at one table. A tavern dining room at Bracken Ridge, for example, takes up to 30 guests.
For groups under 30 it usually is, because the minimum spend is mostly money you would spend on dinner anyway. A function room makes more sense when guests want to stand, mingle and dance.
Most venues allow it, though some add a small cakeage fee for cutting and plating. Mention it when you book so the kitchen can plan for it.
Book by September or October for a Friday or Saturday in December, as these rooms are among the first spaces work groups reserve. Weeknight lunches are easier to secure at short notice.
