Start with the room, because the coast gives you very different ones. A high-rise apartment in Surfers Paradise, a surf club hall at Burleigh, a canal-side backyard at Hope Island and a hinterland estate each suit a different kind of act.
Then think about the job you need done. Some acts fill a dance floor, some give guests something to watch for ten minutes, and some simply keep a long afternoon moving.
A rough guide to matching the act to the job:
Hens groups have their own options too, from male entertainers to topless waiters, and both belong on an adults-only guest list.

It depends on the act. Starting prices here run from $350 for themed pony rides to $990 for a DJ and MC package and $1,210 for a solo violinist. Ask what is included before comparing them.
Most acts here work across the coastal regions, so either end is usually possible. Travel may be charged differently, so give the suburb when you first ask.
Some will, but fewer list the hinterland than the coast. Mention the venue straight away, and ask about pack-up times and how the performer gets back down the range at night.
Often, since surf life saving clubs are community-run function venues used to hosting parties. Ask the club about its finish time, sound limits and whether outside acts are welcome.
Agree on it beforehand. Pick an undercover spot for the act, ask how the performer treats weather delays, and keep electrical gear well away from rain. Summer afternoons are the likeliest time for it.
Usually the venue comes first, because its rules on noise, fire and outside suppliers decide what you can have. Lock the date with the venue, then ask the act.
