Good entertainment at a Hunter Valley event covers three jobs: music people dance to, a host who keeps the formalities on track, and something for children if they are on the guest list. The acts here travel out to vineyard receptions, function rooms and backyards around the region, and plenty of them handle two of those jobs at once.
On the live side, Jackson Broadway perform pop and rock covers as a duo or trio with their own sound and lighting, and Paperboy are a four-piece whose set-up takes up no more space than a duo. Paperboy can also play acoustic music through a battery-powered PA during the ceremony and canapés. Duality bring vocals and keys to covers and originals from $500, The Verweys pair a ceremony duo with a four-piece for the reception, and Colour Theory are a five-piece you book straight from the musicians. If you would rather a DJ, Avid Entertainment, Mobilistic DJs, Mane Events and The Bow Tie DJ Guy all pair the decks with hosting, and Mobilistic DJs bring photobooth, karaoke, trivia and musical bingo add-ons.
The microphone can also go to a celebrant who stays on after the vows. Monty King Celebrant, Married By Adam, Julie Muir Celebrant, Jaya Bargwanna Celebrant and Love & Life with Louise all host receptions, as do Amy Webster Celebrant + MC and Wed By Steph. For the youngest guests, Kingdom Kids Parties send a princess or fairy entertainer with face painting, bubbles and a magic show, and Party Chameleon Hunter Valley, a Cessnock team, runs character, games, disco and magic parties From $253.
Figures worth knowing:
A band like Jackson Broadway or Paperboy brings a live feel and can cover the ceremony too, as Paperboy do acoustically. A DJ such as Mane Events or Avid Entertainment plays a broader range of tracks and usually hosts the formalities as well. The Verweys cover both, following their band sets with an optional DJ set on the same sound and lighting.
Avid Entertainment, Mobilistic DJs and Mane Events combine DJing with MC work. Celebrants including Monty King Celebrant, Married By Adam, Jaya Bargwanna Celebrant and Love & Life with Louise also host receptions after the ceremony.
Kingdom Kids Parties cover Cessnock, Wollombi, Pokolbin, Maitland and the Lower Hunter, with packages From $350 for 1 hour 45 minutes including a costumed entertainer, face painting, a magic show and games. Party Chameleon Hunter Valley is based in Cessnock with free travel within 35 km, and every character party includes face painting and balloon sculpting, with packages From $253.
Paperboy have no travel charge across the Hunter Valley, and Jackson Broadway include travel within 100km of their base in the price. Confirm with your venue address when you enquire.
Mobilistic DJs offer photobooth, karaoke, trivia and musical bingo add-ons, and Mane Events can add lasers and bubble machines to their lighting.
