Dancers in Melbourne

How to Choose Dance Entertainment

Dancers turn a party from something guests watch into something they join in. The dance acts listed for Melbourne fall into two camps: Indian dance from Sapphire Dance, and Latin, cabaret and themed troupes booked through Top Dog Entertainment. Both travel to every region of the city.

Sapphire Dance is a Richmond-based troupe performing Bollywood, Bhangra, Kathak and Bharatanatyam, as stage shows, roving sets or flash mobs, from $548. It can follow a performance with a 15-minute workshop that gets guests on their feet, and it choreographs custom routines and teaches the bridal party.

Top Dog Entertainment is a Port Melbourne agency that has booked acts since 1990. Alongside its bands and DJs, it sends Brazilian samba dancers, showgirl troupes and Studio 54-style acts, organises flash mobs and runs dance lessons.

Ways to use dancers on the day:

An opening act: a short stage show to start the reception or a gala dinner.
Roving through the room: Sapphire Dance performs roving sets between courses or during drinks.
A surprise: both suppliers arrange flash mobs.
A lesson for guests: Sapphire Dance's workshop or Top Dog Entertainment's dance lessons.
A first dance or bridal party routine: Sapphire Dance's custom choreography.

Add live music with bands, or plan the rest of the night on the entertainment page.

Kathak and Bharatanatyam for a classical performance – Sapphire Dance.
