Everything for a Baby Shower

A baby shower works best somewhere calm, comfortable and easy to find, with food that can be picked at between games and gifts. Newcastle has a few rooms that fit that brief well, from a Hamilton pub to a lawn-side bowling club and two spots on Lake Macquarie.
In Hamilton, The Priory at The Blind Monk is a private room behind a Beaumont Street craft beer bar, for 30 to 70 guests. There's no hire fee, just a $400 minimum spend on food, and canape packages start from $38 per person. Around the corner on Tudor Street, The Greenroof has a fireplace dining room seating 28, or 35 for a cocktail party, and a cosy cocktail bar for 15, from $250 minimum spend.
Lowlands Bowling Club in Cooks Hill has an undercover function area beside Centennial Park with a barbecue, and catering can be pre-booked for groups of up to 200. BYO food is also listed, and guests can roll a few ends on the social green.
