Getting Cocktail Classes Right in Sydney

A cocktail class gives a hens afternoon actual structure – everyone's hands-on shaking, straining and tasting rather than just watching one person drink, and the group walks away having actually learned two or three real recipes instead of just having had a few drinks. That's the appeal over a straight bar tab: there's a skill in it, and a natural talking point for the rest of the day.

Book either a mobile mixologist who brings the full bar setup to a venue, Airbnb or private home, or a session at a dedicated cocktail school or bar in the CBD and inner city.

A hosted class covering two or three cocktails over a couple of hours typically costs $70 to $110 per person, including ingredients, glassware and instruction – mobile hosts sometimes add a separate call-out or travel fee
Confirm whether that price covers everything you'll drink during the session or just the cocktails being taught
Most hosts ask for a deposit to lock in the date and a final headcount a few days out
Check how late you can adjust numbers if a guest pulls out or the group grows, and what happens to the deposit if the date needs to move

Send a few Sydney cocktail class suppliers your date through Party Hero and compare what comes back – no booking fee, no markup, just the price they'd quote you directly.

Mobile mixologist – brings the full bar setup to your Airbnb, home or venue, the more flexible option if you want to stay in one location for the whole event
Cocktail school session – held at a dedicated venue in the CBD or inner city, often with a more polished setup and space built specifically for the class
Combined booking – some hosts pair the class with a broader hens or birthday itinerary, running the session as one part of a longer day rather than the whole booking

Getting the Most Out of a Cocktail Class

Confirm exactly which cocktails are being taught before the day, since a group with strong preferences (or a few non-drinkers wanting mocktail versions) is easier to plan for in advance
Ask whether the price covers drinks beyond the taught recipes, since some hosts charge extra once you're past the tasting pours
A mobile host needs a bench or table space and access to a sink – confirm your venue can accommodate this before booking
Book the final headcount close to the date but leave enough buffer for the host to shop for fresh ingredients like citrus and herbs

Answers to Common Cocktail Class Questions

Mobile mixologist or a cocktail school venue?

Both are available in Sydney – a mobile host brings the full bar setup to your Airbnb, home or venue, while a cocktail school runs the session at their own space in the CBD or inner city.

What's included in the price?

A typical class covers ingredients, glassware and instruction for two or three cocktails, but mobile hosts sometimes add a separate call-out or travel fee on top.

Do we keep drinking once the taught recipes are done?

Confirm this with the host – some classes charge extra for drinks made once you're past the tasting pours and the recipes being taught.

How late can we confirm final numbers?

Most hosts take a deposit to lock in the date and ask for a final headcount a few days out, so check how late you can adjust if a guest pulls out or joins.

What happens to the deposit if we need to change the date?

This varies by supplier, so it's worth confirming before you pay rather than assuming it carries over automatically.

Can the host cater for non-drinkers or make mocktail versions?

Many hosts can build in mocktail versions of the taught recipes if you let them know your guest list in advance – worth confirming when you book rather than assuming it's automatic.

What does a mobile mixologist need from the venue?

Generally a bench or table space and access to a sink – confirm your venue or Airbnb can accommodate this before booking a mobile host rather than a cocktail school session.
