Richard Vegas

About Richard Vegas

Based in Melbourne, Richard Vegas works as an illusionist, mentalist and magician, both on stage and up close. He trained as an actor before graduating from NIDA, and has worked professionally as a magician for more than 25 years, including a long stint entertaining high-end guests at Crown Casino. That theatre background shows in his work: the tricks are wrapped in story, character and a dry sense of humour. For most functions he works as a roving magician. He moves between small groups during pre-dinner drinks or a cocktail party, with card magic, sleight of hand, mind reading and small-scale illusions that happen in the guests' own hands. It suits birthdays, engagement parties, hens parties, weddings, Christmas parties and corporate networking events. Bigger events can book the Madotti & Vegas magic and illusion show, performed with magician Julia Madotti, his creative partner. Sets run from 5 to 40 minutes and can be shaped around a theme. The pair also produce cabaret-style magic acts with full costuming, from Weimar and Gatsby looks to modern styling, and build custom routines for product launches and trade fairs – a floating beer bottle at a brewery launch is one example from their client feedback. Richard also hires out as an MC. He has hosted prize draws and promotions on casino gaming floors, and runs corporate events, club nights, festivals and shopping-centre events, adding magic to the proceedings where it fits. A French comic character host, Monsieur Marveaux, is available for themed nights. For families there is a theatrical children's show combining magic, character and dance, and school incursions that can include magic workshops.
