Take the Party to the Harbour

Newcastle has two very different stretches of water for a party afloat. On Newcastle Harbour the boats lean towards big, catered functions, while Lake Macquarie suits smaller, slower days with a swim or a sail. The vessels themselves range from a 40-foot yacht for a handful of people to a two-level function boat that can stand a few hundred.
At the large end, All Event Cruises charters Calmer, an 87-foot vessel with two enclosed dining levels, licensed bars, an open sky deck and room for 250 seated or 470 standing. NOVA Cruises works with three boats – NOVA Spirit and Bay Connections 1 on the harbour and the Hunter River, and Lady Mac on the lake – for groups of about 30 up to 95, with set menus and a licensed bar.
For something with more history, William The Fourth Cruises takes up to 54 guests aboard a 32-metre working replica of the paddle steamer launched in 1831, boarding by ramp at Lee Wharf with a volunteer crew. Out on the lake, Island Cruze is a skippered two-deck BYO cruiser for 38 with a gas BBQ, galley and swim deck, and Silver Sun Sailing takes small skippered groups out on a Beneteau yacht from Belmont.
