Choosing the Right Axe Throwing Venue

A few beers and a wooden target only get a bucks party so far – axe throwing gives the group something to actually compete over, with coached lanes now running across Sydney's inner west and south for groups of 8 to 20-plus.

Sessions run $35 to $50 per person for 60 to 90 minutes, covering coaching, safety gear and a set number of throws or a full tournament format
A number of venues bundle in a beer or bar tab as part of a package – worth asking about if drinks are part of the plan
Check lane capacity: a bigger group needs enough lanes running side by side, or you'll spend half the session waiting for a turn
Confirm whether your booking is private or shared with another group
Ask what the venue's policy is if some of your group arrives late, since throwing lanes are often booked in fixed time blocks

Compare quotes from a few Sydney axe throwing venues before deciding – enquiring through Party Hero costs nothing and adds nothing to the price they give you.

Coached beginner sessions – the standard format for a party booking, with an instructor running safety and technique before open throwing or a simple tournament
League and tournament formats – some venues run structured competitive leagues outside of party bookings, worth mentioning if anyone in your group wants to come back and play more seriously
Private vs shared lanes – confirm which you're booking, since a shared session means less throwing time per person in a bigger venue

Where to Go Axe Throwing in Sydney

Inner West (Marrickville) – home to one of Sydney's original axe throwing venues, in the brewery precinct
Alexandria and Brookvale – closer to the city and northern beaches respectively, useful depending on where your group is coming from
Western Sydney (Blacktown, Penrith area) – a further-out option if your group is based that side of the city

Common Questions About Axe Throwing

Is coaching included, or do we need experience?

Yes – sessions include coaching and safety gear, so no prior experience is needed to book.

How many lanes do we need for a bigger group?

Check lane capacity before booking – a bigger group needs enough lanes running side by side, or you'll spend more time waiting around than throwing.

Will our booking be private or shared with another group?

This varies by venue, so confirm upfront whether your session is exclusive to your group or shared with others.

What happens if some of our group arrives late?

Throwing lanes are often booked in fixed time blocks that won't simply extend to fit stragglers, so ask the venue's policy on late arrivals before you book.

Does the price include drinks?

Some venues bundle in a beer or bar tab as part of the package – worth asking about if drinks are part of your plan.

Can we join a league or come back for a more competitive session later?

Yes – several Sydney venues run structured leagues and tournaments outside of party bookings, worth asking about if anyone in your group gets into it and wants to come back.

Does the venue's location affect the price?

Not usually – pricing is generally set by session length and group size rather than which Sydney venue or suburb you book, so choose based on convenience rather than expecting a price difference.
