Nobody needs to paint well at a paint and sip party. An artist walks the group through the piece, the drinks keep everyone relaxed, and every guest goes home with a canvas. Melbourne's two studios on this page are south-east of the city, one in the Inner South and one in Bayside.
Sossy and Canvas is hosted by abstract artist Sossy Kinderman in her own gallery on Glen Huntly Rd, Elsternwick. Groups of 5 to 35 choose between an abstract painting, a textured sculpted artwork or a spray-painted graffiti piece. The booking includes three hours in the gallery and a deep-edge canvas for each guest, and it is BYO wine with glasses supplied, from $490 per group.
ArtBar Moorabbin, on Chesterville Rd, has murals on its walls and a licensed bar of its own. A resident artist teaches step by step, and the easel, paints, brushes, apron and canvas are all included, from $65 per person. With 12 or more, a group can have the studio to itself and choose what everyone paints.
