We Love Face Painting was set up in 2007 by Shelley Bledsoe, who came to face painting from makeup artistry and cosmetic tattooing. The business works out of St Kilda and has painters spread around Melbourne, so it tries to send whichever artist is closest to your party. Face painting is the main service, from full-face monsters to fairy butterflies and small cheek designs. The team uses water-based Kryolan paints with anti-bacterial and hypoallergenic properties, and glitter that is safe on skin. As a guide, one artist paints 10 to 12 full designs, 15 to 17 small designs or 20 to 25 transfer-style tattoos in an hour, so you can choose quicker designs if you have a long queue. Children need to be at least two and a half years old to be painted. Balloon twisting is booked the same way, with a roving artist making animals, superheroes and fairies for guests to take home. The team also offers glitter art, airbrushed and flash tattoos, glitter hair braiding and feather hair extensions, and can supply several artists for larger events. A booking with one artist costs $320 for two hours, $375 for two and a half and $450 for three. A two-hour minimum applies within 25km of St Kilda, and a 50% deposit secures the date. The artists have police checks and Working with Children Checks, and the business carries its own public liability insurance.
