About Colour Theory
Colour Theory is a five-piece pop and rock covers band based in Newcastle. The group first formed to play a charity event in the city, and for more than a decade it has worked almost entirely at weddings and functions across Newcastle, the Hunter Valley and wider NSW. The line-up is Ryan and India on vocals, Brad on drums, Jake on bass, who also looks after bookings, and Timmy. You deal with the band members directly from the first enquiry, with no agency fees added. On the dance floor the band covers hits from the sixties through the noughties alongside current songs, picked to get every generation up and moving. Earlier in the day, a catalogue of gentle acoustic covers suits guest arrivals and canapés. A standard booking is four 45-minute sets, and other lengths can be quoted. Special requests are learned and arranged in the band's own style, and during breaks they play playlists built for each stage of the night, or you can use your own device or send a Spotify link. Every hire includes the band's Allen & Heath mixing desk, RCF front-of-house speakers and lighting suited to the line-up, which handles crowds of up to 1,000, with Newcastle's Scion Audio brought in for larger events. The band likes to load in and sound check before guests arrive, and that time is not charged, since the booking starts with the first set. Colour Theory has played many Hunter Valley venues, including Peppers Creek, The Convent, Adams Peak, Peterson House, Wandin Valley Estate and Chateau Elan, and carries $20 million public liability cover. Prices are quoted per event.

Frequently asked questions
Does Colour Theory play Hunter Valley weddings?
Yes. The band is based in Newcastle and has played many Hunter Valley venues, including Peterson House, The Convent, Adams Peak, Wandin Valley Estate and Chateau Elan.
How long does the band play for?
A typical hire is four 45-minute sets. If you need a different amount of music, the band will quote for it when you get in touch.
Does the band bring its own PA?
Yes. Every booking includes an Allen & Heath mixing desk, RCF front-of-house speakers and lighting, enough for up to 1,000 guests. Larger events use Scion Audio.
Can Colour Theory learn our song?
Yes. Learning a couple's chosen song is something the band enjoys, and they work up their own version of it to play on the night.
Is set-up time charged?
No. The band aims to load in and sound check before guests arrive, but the hire time only begins with the first set, so early set-up doesn't change the fee.
