About Sapphire Dance
Sapphire Dance is a Bollywood and Indian dance troupe led by director Jaya Karan, who also founded the Studio J Dance school in Richmond. Its performers teach there too, and the troupe has played weddings, birthdays, corporate functions, festivals and council events around Melbourne, wearing glamorous costumes and drawing guests into the action. Bollywood is the main act, but the line-up goes well beyond it. The troupe performs Indian classical forms such as Bharatanatyam and Kathak, folk dances like Bhangra and Garba, semi-classical pieces and fusion routines such as Bolly-Kathak or South Indian street. For festivals and larger events it can supply roving dancers, freestyle with the crowd or stage a surprise flash mob. Shows are booked with at least two dancers and come as a 5–7 minute medley of three or four songs or an 8–10 minute set of five or six songs, once or twice in the night with a costume change. Standard packages add a 15-minute dance workshop for guests, and premium packages add 30 minutes of meet-and-greet, roving and photos with guests. Couples can also book custom choreography, from a first dance to a full bridal party routine, along with private lessons at the studio. With enough notice the troupe will build a fusion routine around a theme or a requested song, and Bollywood costumes can be hired so guests can dress for the occasion.

How many dancers do I need to book?
Every show needs at least two dancers. Prices are set per dancer, so you can add more performers for a bigger stage or a larger room.

Do they perform styles other than Bollywood?
Yes. The troupe also performs Bharatanatyam and Kathak, Bhangra and Garba folk dances, semi-classical pieces and fusion routines, and has choreographed Greek and Irish themed pieces on request.
