About Katumba Latin Entertainment
Katumba Latin Entertainment is a Brunswick-based company that has been bringing Latin American dance to Melbourne functions, festivals and parties for well over a decade, with performers who have around 25 years' experience between them. Its trademark is the interactive floorshow, which blends Cuban and Brazilian rhythms with feathered carnival costumes. Shows are built to suit the event. They run anywhere from 10 to 60 minutes, though about 30 minutes is the recommended length for an interactive set, and can be split into one, two or three sets. The cast ranges from a single dance couple to eight or more dancers, in a Cuban, Brazilian or mixed Latin theme, staged nightclub-style or as a traditional floorshow. Live percussion, roving dancers and photos with the costumed dancers can all be included. Outside Latin, the team creates themed productions – Vegas showgirls, Gatsby and flapper routines, belly dance, Bollywood, burlesque, Afro-Cuban, masquerade, Halloween and 70s to 90s retro shows – along with an all-female samba show, professional salsa couples who can teach guests a few steps, fire twirlers, acrobats and a breakdancing surprise waiters flash mob. For engagements and weddings, Katumba can handle hens and bucks workshops, bridal first dance classes, a grand entrance, a party-starter show and an MC who prepares the run sheet.
