Clear allChoosing a birthday venue in the Lower Hunter is mostly a choice between three settings: the pubs and bars of Maitland's historic High Street, the river town of Morpeth with its heritage sandstone streetscape, and East Maitland across the Hunter River around Green Hills. Each suits a different kind of party, from a loud night with a band to a long lunch with wine.
A quick way to narrow it down by where you want to be:
Maitland station is on the Hunter Line, which helps guests heading to a High Street party without a car.

The Family Hotel on Maitland's High Street runs live bands, vinyl DJ sets, trivia and open mic nights and has a stage corner. The Pourhouse's front bar has bands on Friday and Saturday nights, and the venue can organise music on other nights for a function.
Boydell's in Morpeth, just north-east of Maitland, is the cellar door, wine bar and restaurant of a family wine company, and the whole venue can be hired for up to 50 guests. Its vineyard is further north at East Gresford, and functions pour the estate's own wines.
Commercial Hotel Morpeth's seated menus for groups over 20 start from $40 per person, and The Family Hotel's canapé package is from $42 per person. The Hunter Room at Hunter River Hotel has a $2,000 minimum spend, though the hotel doesn't host 18ths. Exclusive hire of Boydell's carries a $7,000 minimum spend. For The Pourhouse and The George Tavern, ask the events team when you enquire.
Commercial Hotel Morpeth can connect you with cake makers, florists and decorators. At the other venues, mention what you need in your enquiry.
