About Commercial Hotel Morpeth
The Commercial Hotel is a two-storey heritage pub at 127 Swan Street in Morpeth, the historic river village just outside Maitland. Its long iron-lace verandah looks out over the Hunter River towards the distant mountains, and the hotel runs a bistro alongside its bars. Four areas can be reserved for functions. Upstairs, the verandah, two cosy rooms and Miss Mullens Bar form a private space with its own bar, seating 40 or holding 60 cocktail-style, and it is the pick for sunset drinks with a view. Downstairs, the Dining Room seats up to 70 and suits lunch or dinner functions with a main meal. The Middle Bar takes up to 80 at tall tables and stools for a casual social night, and doubles as the wet-weather backup for the Beer Garden, an alfresco space under a large fig tree that also fits up to 80 with a mix of standing and seating. Catering comes in three styles that can be combined. Grazing boards cost $120 for 10 to 20 people or $200 for 20 or more. Platters of 30 pieces range from fresh canapés such as satay chicken skewers, prawn skewers, arancini and bruschetta to more filling options like salt and pepper squid, sliders, bao buns and fish and chip buckets, with dessert platters to finish. Two combo packages feed 30 guests for $500 or $750. For seated groups over 20, an alternate-drop menu costs $40 per person for two courses or $50 for three. The team can also connect you with cake makers, florists and decorators.

Decent pub food cooked well. Could be excellent if more attention was given to the balance of flavours. The salad on the schnitzel was drowning in dressing. Diane sauce was gluggy and tasted like gravy. Steak sandwich…
