About The Back Room @ The Whistler
The Whistler is a bar and restaurant on High Street in Maitland, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bar pours Australian beers on tap, more than 15 wines and a cocktail list. For private parties the venue has The Back Room, its own function room. Dark timber panelling, leather booth seating and a bar give the room a moody lounge feel. The Back Room takes up to 80 guests. Guests sit on 35 stools or around three big tables, which staff can shift about, so it works for a mingling crowd or a group gathered around tables. On Friday and Saturday the room costs $250 to hire, and that fee covers a bartender for three hours. Evening bookings on those two nights need at least 35 guests. From Sunday to Thursday a $250 deposit holds the room, and it is either returned afterwards or put towards bar tab credit, function platters or bartender time. Food comes as function platters, each feeding roughly 10 to 12 people and ordered a week ahead, or guests can order from the regular menu. Dietary needs can be catered for with notice. Outside food isn't allowed, apart from a celebration cake or chips with management's prior approval. Bookings run in two slots, 10am to 4pm or 5pm until close. You can bring your own music, entertainment and decorations, though glitter and confetti are not permitted.
