About SOUMAH of Yarra Valley
SOUMAH is a working vineyard on Hexham Road in Gruyere, in the Yarra Valley, looking out over its Hexham vines towards the Warramate ranges. Its restaurant, Ai Fiori Trattoria, cooks Italian-inspired food to go with wines grown on the property, from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to Nebbiolo, Savarro and Brachetto. For a private evening, the whole venue is yours. Guests start with drinks in the Piazza Bar or out on the lawn, then move through to the dining room and deck for the meal. Evening events take 30 to 60 guests and run from 6.30pm until 10.30pm. The deck is enclosed by clear blinds and has reverse cycle air conditioning, and in warmer weather it opens onto a grassed area. On weekdays it can seat lunch groups of 10 to 40 people, dropping to 20 from Friday to Sunday. Corporate groups use the estate for team building, planning days, product launches, speaker sessions and networking events. The northern Italian dining room seats up to 40, a conservatory at Villa Sophia can be used for private sessions when it is free, and a cellar door tasting or hosted vineyard walk can be added at no charge. Evening menus come in two styles: a grazing spread with antipasti, cheese, rolling wood-fired pizzas and small sweets, or a seated three-course dinner. A four-hour drinks package covers sparkling, white and red wines, local beers and soft drinks, or the bar can run on consumption. On the Trattoria Deck, the celebration lunch package is $110 per person and includes a wine tasting, a glass of wine and three courses. Group lunch packages start at $65 per person for a shared pizza menu for up to 12 people, and the deck can be booked exclusively on weekdays for 21 to 30 people with a $2,500 minimum spend.
Evening events need a $1,000 deposit, with the balance paid 21 days out. Group lunches on Saturdays and Sundays attract a 10% surcharge, and public holidays 20%.
Food
The seated option begins with antipasti and garlic pizza, then two mains from the trattoria menu served alternately with shared sides, finishing with small desserts and cheese. A celebration cake can be ordered for $150.
Dietary needs are confirmed at least three days ahead; gluten-free pizza is not available but gluten-free pasta is.
Beverages
Lunch groups can add a classic tasting and a glass of wine for $27 per person.
