About Avalon Castle

Avalon Castle is a wedding venue on a two-acre estate in Cockatoo, in the Dandenong Ranges. The bluestone castle is surrounded by landscaped gardens, century-old gum trees and an ornamental fountain, and the Blyth family manages the property. There are three places to hold the ceremony. The Chapel has stained glass, timber panelling and traditional pews, the redwood Gazebo stands among the gardens, and the Rose Terrace sits on the lower lawn under native trees beside a rustic outdoor bar built from wine barrels. After the vows, drinks are served in the garden before guests head upstairs to the reception room. It seats up to 120 guests, or takes 130 for a cocktail-style reception, and every wedding has the grounds to itself. The standard package runs for seven hours from the ceremony start and includes a six-hour drinks package. Couples choose a cocktail reception with up to 12 canapés per guest and a grazing station, or a three- or four-course table-served meal with alternate drop. Table linen, décor, cake service, easels, a lectern and the in-house sound system with a wireless microphone are part of the package. A wedding coordinator handles planning, and an event supervisor looks after the reception through to the end of the night. Smaller celebrations are covered by micro wedding packages for up to 60 guests, mini weddings for up to 40 and elopements for up to 20. Send an enquiry to arrange a tour or check dates.

Weddings are priced per person with a minimum spend. Monday to Thursday the minimum spend is $11,000, Friday and Sunday $14,000, and Saturday $17,000, with no separate ceremony or venue hire fee.

On weekdays, packages start at $165 per person for a cocktail and grazing reception, $180 per person for three courses and $195 per person for four courses. Saturday packages start at $195 per person. A 15 percent surcharge applies on public holidays.

Food

The cocktail option serves up to 12 canapés per guest with a grazing station as guests arrive at the reception. The four-course option adds four pre-dinner canapés to a choice of two entrées, two mains and two desserts served alternately, and the three-course option lets couples pick three of those four courses.

Vegan, vegetarian and other dietary needs are catered for. The wedding cake can be served as dessert with cream and berries.

Beverages

Every standard package includes a six-hour drinks package of beer, cider, wine, soft drinks, tea and coffee, starting at the outdoor bar and finishing in the reception room. Spirits are sold at the bar, and a bar tab can be added. Drinks are served from the bar rather than at the table.

A date is held for 10 working days after a viewing. To confirm it, couples sign the terms and conditions and pay a $1,000 deposit.
