About Coombe Yarra Valley

Coombe Yarra Valley is the Coldstream estate Dame Nellie Melba made her home in 1909, set behind tall hedges on the Maroondah Highway. Today it runs a restaurant, cellar door and garden tours, and hosts weddings and private functions across seven acres of grounds laid out by William Guilfoyle. The smallest space is the Private Dining Room behind the restaurant, with brick walls, its own ensuite and a door onto a quiet courtyard. It seats 26 at a single table and suits birthdays, small celebrations and business lunches. Melba's Gallery is an enclosed room lined with original artworks from Melba's collection, warmed by an open fireplace in winter. It seats up to 40 and has AV and a projector on request, so it works for long lunches as well as presentations. For bigger events the main restaurant takes up to 150 guests, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking onto the Melba Garden and a dedicated indoor dance floor. The whole estate can also be booked exclusively, with the events team drawing up a floor plan around your numbers. Weddings can begin in the hedged Italian Garden or beneath an oak thought to be more than 180 years old, before the reception moves inside. Milestone birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, corporate days and end-of-year celebrations are also hosted. Catering comes from the restaurant's seasonal kitchen, and corporate groups can add wine tastings, garden tours or a yoga session on the lawns. Send an enquiry to book.
