About Terrace Bar & Lounge @ Balgownie Hotel
The Balgownie Hotel has been pouring beers on Balgownie Road since 1899, and its upper level is given over to private events. The pub sits with the escarpment on one side and the ocean on the other, and the hotel has its own car park with a bus stop right outside. The Terrace Bar & Lounge takes up the entire top floor, so a booked function has the level to itself. There is a comfortable lounge area, a wide open floor for mingling or dancing, a private bar, its own bathrooms and a balcony that runs around the outside of the building. The room holds up to 140 people for a cocktail-style party or around 50 at banquet tables. Access is by stairs only, as there is no lift or ramp to this level. Room hire is free for five hours, with staff included, and a minimum spend applies only to Saturday events starting from 5:30pm. Food runs from cocktail menus of six, eight or ten items to pizza, platters and a grazing table. Three milestone packages bundle canapés, a bar tab of at least $1,000 and wait staff, and the upper two add a DJ or solo performer and a photographer, with the top tier bringing champagne on arrival, an arch backdrop and a doughnut wall. Drinks can be handled with a capped bar tab or a four-hour beverage package, and the floor has a dance floor, a wireless microphone and an AUX connection for your own music. Bars close at 11:30pm, or 9:30pm on Sundays.

How many guests fit in the Terrace Bar & Lounge?
The function pack lists up to 140 guests for a cocktail-style event and up to 50 for a seated banquet. The function page gives slightly lower figures of 120 standing and 55 seated, so confirm numbers with the events team.
Is there a room hire fee or minimum spend?
Room hire is free for five hours and includes staff. A minimum spend only applies to Saturday functions starting from 5:30pm: $2,000 from January to September and $3,000 from October to December. Public holidays carry a $2,000 minimum and surcharges.
What party packages are available?
There are three milestone packages for a minimum of 60 guests. Standard is $52 per person, Premium is $71 per person and Deluxe is $106 per person. All include five hours of room hire, six cocktail food items, a bar tab of at least $1,000, cake service and wait staff, and the higher tiers add a DJ or solo artist, a photographer and styling.
Do 18th and 21st birthdays need security?
Yes. The hotel requires a security guard for the whole of an 18th or 21st birthday, for at least four hours, charged at $61 an hour on weekdays, $72 on Saturdays and $83 on Sundays.
Is the function room accessible?
The room is on the top floor and is reached by stairs only, as there is no lift or ramp access to that level. The hotel's beer garden, which takes smaller groups, has wheelchair access.
