About The Loft @ The Builders Club

The Builders Club has been a fixture of Church Street in Wollongong since the early 1960s, and its main space for private events is The Loft, a function room on the club's first floor. The club has its own multi-storey car park with free parking, some of it undercover, and a cocktail bar, steakhouse, sports bar and bistro downstairs. The Loft is an open-plan room with tall windows along one side that let in plenty of daylight, carpeted floors, a modern fit-out and its own private bar. Hosts get the room and the foyer outside it to themselves. Set up for cocktails it holds about 250 people. With round tables it seats 120 with space left for a dance floor, or 140 without one. For daytime meetings the same room works theatre style for 150, cabaret for 80 or classroom for 60, with a lectern, microphone, projector and screen. Food comes from the club kitchen. Canapé menus start at $25 per person for five pieces, a grazing table is $35 per person, buffets run from $40 to $55 per person and plated dinners are $55 for two courses or $65 for three, served alternately. Packages are built for 50 guests or more, and below that a $500 room hire fee applies. A four-hour drinks package of beer, wine and soft drinks costs $62 per person, with spirits an extra $10 per person, or you can run a bar tab with a limit you set. The bar shuts at 11.30pm and the room closes shortly after. A function manager handles the planning.

Pricing

Canapé menus start at $25 per person for five pieces, a grazing table is $35 per person, buffets are $40, $45 or $55 per person and plated dinners are $55 for two courses or $65 for three. Packages are for a minimum of 50 guests, which also removes the room hire fee; smaller events pay $500 room hire. Food

The club kitchen caters every event. Choose five canapés from a list including chicken skewers, arancini, sliders, mini pies and smoked salmon blini, or go for a grazing table, a buffet with hot mains, vegetables, salads and desserts, or an alternate-drop dinner with bread rolls and tea and coffee. Platters, pizza platters and a kids menu for under-12s are also available. Dietary needs are catered for with notice.

Beverages

A four-hour package of tap beers, sparkling, white, rosé and red wine, juice and soft drinks costs $62 per person, with a spirits upgrade for $10 per person; if you take it, every adult guest must be on the package. Alternatively, open a bar tab with a spending cap. No outside food or drinks are allowed apart from a celebration cake.

Availability

The Loft is booked through the club's function manager via the enquiry form on the functions page. A $500 deposit confirms the date, and final numbers and payment are due seven days before the event.
