About Barkly Room @ The Plough Hotel
The Plough Hotel is a pub on Barkly Street in Footscray with a dining room, a casual bistro, a courtyard and rooms upstairs for guests staying the night. It has two function spaces, and the larger of them, the Barkly Room, is set up for private parties. The Barkly Room sits at the back of the venue. It is a contemporary room of roughly 6 by 11 metres, with a living green wall, round mirrors, timber tables and its own bar staffed by a dedicated bartender. Doors open onto the pub's courtyard. The room seats 60 or holds up to 100 standing, and with the courtyard added (an extra $500 for exclusive use, weather permitting) a standing event can stretch to 120. For speeches or workshops there is a projector and screen, a 55-inch smart TV, a whiteboard and sound equipment. Smaller groups can use the Victoria Room off the main dining room, which seats 10 to 20. Seated functions dine from a shared-table menu served family style: charcuterie and focaccia to start, three mains to share from options such as porterhouse, salmon, lamb shoulder and roast chicken, then sides and an alternating dessert. Standing events choose canapé packages of four to six pieces plus substantial items, and grazing tables, pizza, dips and cheese platters can be added. Drinks run on a bar tab, with you choosing the wines, tap beers and any spirits, spritzes or mocktails to include. A minimum spend applies from Thursday to Sunday, and a $400 deposit with signed terms confirms the booking.

Frequently asked questions
How many people fit in the Barkly Room?
It seats 60 or holds up to 100 standing. Adding the courtyard takes a standing event to about 120, depending on the weather.
Is there a minimum spend?
Yes. The Barkly Room has a $2,000 minimum spend from Thursday to Sunday, and exclusive use of the courtyard is an extra $500. If the minimum isn't reached, the difference is charged.
What food packages are available?
The shared-table menu is $69 per person for two courses or $79 for three. Canapé packages are $27, $38 or $50 per person with a minimum of 30 guests, and grazing tables and platters can be added.
How do drinks work for a function?
Drinks run on a bar tab. You select one sparkling, two red and two white wines plus the tap beer range, and can add house spirits, spritzes and mocktails. The room's private bar is staffed by your own bartender.
How do I confirm a booking?
A $400 deposit and signed terms confirm the booking, and tentative holds last up to five working days. Cancelling within three weeks of the event forfeits the deposit.
