About Richmond Union Bowling Club
Richmond Union Bowling Club has been rolling bowls in Richmond since 1868, and today its greens work as much as a social venue as a sporting one. The club sits on Gleadell Street behind the Richmond Town Hall, with 14 natural grass rinks lit by floodlights, undercover barbecue areas, outdoor seating, a full-service bar and a bistro turning out pub classics. Five big-screen TVs are spread through the clubhouse. Barefoot social bowls is the easy way in. Groups of up to 20 can book a two-hour session online, and the club's hosts are on the green to teach the basics, so nobody needs to have played before. Bowl barefoot or in flat-soled shoes. Sessions run in set slots from late morning, with an extra evening slot from 7pm during daylight saving, and payment is taken on the day for the number of people who actually turn up. For birthdays, Christmas parties, work events and fundraisers, larger groups and anyone wanting food go through the function enquiry form. You can hire rinks on their own (up to ten bowlers per rink), the indoor function room on its own, or both together. The room seats up to 150 and has an AV setup with a projector and cordless microphones. Catering is in-house only – finger food, antipasto, fruit or sweets platters, or a standard or premium BBQ served before or after bowling – and final numbers and menus are locked in seven days ahead. The function room is not offered in November and December.
