About Melbourne Bowling Club
Melbourne Bowling Club has been rolling bowls on Union Street in Windsor since 1864, and alongside its pennant and tournament play it opens its greens to the public for social and corporate barefoot bowls. A rink is yours for two hours, with bowls, mats and jacks supplied and a bowls host on hand to explain the basics and help through the session. Shoes stay off the greens, so play barefoot or in socks. Each rink suits an even number up to ten, stretching to 14 for a casual crew, and the club can organise a round robin or knockout if you want some competition. The clubhouse has a licensed bar pouring tap and bottled beer, cider and wine by the glass or bottle, and you can run a tab or a cash bar. Bowling groups of 20 or more can take a basic or premium three-hour drinks package when catering is ordered too. Catering covers finger food, build-your-own burgers and BBQ packs, platters and corporate breakfasts and lunches; outside food and BYO aren't allowed, apart from a birthday cake. Plan on about three hours for bowling alone, or closer to four with a meal. For bigger events, the Clubroom seats up to 120 at round tables or holds 300 standing, with a dance floor, small stage, projector and microphone. The Jack High room takes around 28 seated or 50 standing with its heated courtyard. Children are welcome under supervision, with smaller bowls for little hands, though hens and bucks bookings must start by 2pm. If rain stops play, darts, pool and table tennis are on hand inside. Windsor station and several tram routes are close by, as on-site parking is limited.

Frequently asked questions
How much does barefoot bowls cost at Melbourne Bowling Club?
Rinks are booked for two hours, charged at $30 per person from September to April and $20 per person from May to August. Groups of 70 and under pay per person, and larger corporate groups can enquire for a quote.
Do we need to know how to play?
No. A bowls host explains the game at the start and stays around to help, and the club supplies all the bowls, mats and jacks. Teams of four are recommended, and you can play barefoot or in socks.
Can we bring our own food or drinks?
No – the club is fully licensed and doesn't allow BYO food or drinks, with the exception of a birthday cake. Catering packages and bar drinks are available, and groups of 20 or more can book a drinks package.
What happens if it rains on the day?
You can often still bowl in light rain. If weather stops play and you come anyway, the club charges $10 per person and moves the rest of your deposit to a bar tab, with darts, pool and table tennis to keep you busy.
Can we bring the kids, and are hens and bucks parties welcome?
Children are welcome as long as they're supervised, and there are smaller bowls for younger players. Hens and bucks groups are accepted, but only for bookings that start before 2pm.
