About Bottoms Up Dance Brunswick
Bottoms Up is a boutique burlesque and pole dance school at 3 Pitt St in Brunswick, run by owners Amanda Miller and Jacquie Thomas, both with long histories in Australian burlesque and pole. Its studios have polished floorboards, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, a good sound system and adjustable lighting; the larger room can be set up with up to ten poles, and a second pole studio holds twelve. Private party classes are a big part of what the studio does. Hens nights are the classic booking, but the same 75-minute format is used for birthdays, group nights out, team-building and work parties. Your group picks a dance style, such as burlesque or pole, and after some ice-breakers the teacher runs through a set of moves and tricks and links them into a short routine, including a featured part for the guest of honour. After some practice, everyone grabs a prop, dresses up in boas, feathers or hats and performs the routine for the rest of the group, with plenty of photo moments along the way. The burlesque class covers pin-up poses and a little bump and grind, and all props and dress-ups are provided. The classes are built for beginners, and every party is private to your group. Pricing is per person with no minimum or maximum numbers, though groups under six pay a minimum charge, and friends who come to watch rather than dance pay a smaller fee. A $100 deposit holds the date and the balance is paid on the day. Arrive on time, as the session can't run over its slot. The teachers can also bring burlesque parties to other venues for an extra fee.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a Bottoms Up party class cost?
Party classes are $40 per person, with a minimum charge of $240 for groups smaller than six. Guests who come along but don't dance pay $15 each. A $100 deposit secures the booking and the balance is paid on the day.
What happens during the 75-minute class?
After introductions, the teacher shows the group a set of moves and tricks in your chosen style and builds them into a routine with a special part for the guest of honour. You practise, dress up with props, then showcase it to each other.
Is there a minimum or maximum group size?
There's no minimum or maximum number of guests for party classes, and every party is private to your group. Smaller groups of fewer than six are charged a minimum of $240 for the class.
Can we do a pole dancing party?
Pole parties run in the Brunswick studio, which has dedicated pole rooms. Pole isn't offered when the teachers travel to another venue. Striptease-style parties can be requested but depend on availability.
What is the cancellation policy for parties?
Cancelling within seven days of the party incurs a $100 fee, and cancelling earlier carries a $50 administration fee. There are no refunds for guests who confirm and pay but don't turn up on the night.
