Gather is the steakhouse restaurant at Rydges Resort Hunter Valley, on Wine Country Drive in Lovedale. The kitchen centres on Australian beef cooked over flame, from flat iron and wagyu rump through to a dry-aged cut that changes weekly, with a wine list drawn heavily from Pokolbin, Lovedale and Broke Fordwich producers. Dinner runs Tuesday to Saturday and breakfast is served every day. For a group, the restaurant sets aside two private rooms next to the main dining room. GATHER North looks out over the pergola and the Merlot lawn through floor-to-ceiling glass, with dark sheer curtains that can be drawn so the room feels like your own. GATHER West faces the resort grounds and the Brokenback Range, with tall ceilings and windows that catch the late afternoon sun, which suits a long lunch or an evening dinner as the light drops. Both rooms are laid out for seated dining at long tables. Group dining runs off set menus rather than the a la carte list. The butcher's table option is a shared spread at $75 per person, the feed me menu is $83 per person to share, and a plated group menu is $79 per person for two courses or $93 for three. Dessert can be added to the shared menus. Dietary needs can be noted when booking. It works well for 40th, 50th and 60th birthdays, engagement dinners, team dinners and end-of-year celebrations when the group is staying in the Hunter.
