The Courthouse Hotel, known locally as The Courty, is a pub at 202 Australia Street, Newtown, a block off King Street. It has been pouring beers for more than a century and a half and is best known for its big leafy beer garden. The venue says it is about three minutes on foot from Newtown station and two from the King Street buses, with two-hour street parking on Australia Street. Functions use three semi-private areas rather than a closed room. The Bistro is inside, a red-lit dining room with its own section of tables that seats up to 60 for lunches, dinners and birthdays. Outside, the Outdoor Bar takes up to 100 guests for stand-up parties with the bar close at hand, and a section of the Beer Garden, under trees and umbrellas, suits groups of up to 40. The pub hosts birthdays including 18ths and 21sts, work drinks, engagements, end-of-year parties, and hens and bucks groups. Food for functions comes as platters of 30 pieces, from bruschetta and mac and cheese bites to sliders, fried chicken, vegetarian and vegan selections, cheese boards, churros and brownies. Drinks can run on a bar tab with a limit you set, or on a Classic, Premium or Deluxe package for two to four hours, with a cocktail on arrival or spirits upgrade as extras. You can bring your own cake with no cakeage fee, and tidy decorations are fine. Dogs are welcome, the dress code is casual and a 15% surcharge applies on public holidays.
