About The Canopy @ The Golden Sheaf
The Golden Sheaf is a heritage-listed pub at 429 New South Head Road in Double Bay, with a beer garden under an 80-year-old fig tree, a rooftop, a band room with DJs and live music, and a bottle shop. Buses run along New South Head Road, and Edgecliff Station is about a 10 minute walk away. The Canopy is the pub's most private function room, set up high among the branches of the fig tree so it feels like an urban treehouse bar. It sits apart from the busier areas of the venue and has its own bar, bathrooms, AV system, screen and a balcony that opens into the tree. It holds 150 guests standing or 60 seated, so it works for cocktail parties as well as sit-down lunches and dinners, engagement parties and corporate events. The pub has several other spaces too, from the 30-guest Sunrise lounge to exclusive use of the Garden Bar, a whole level or the entire ground floor. Food is handled by the functions team. Canapé packages run from $50 per person for five pieces up to $75 per person with a cheese and charcuterie station, all for 15 guests or more, and there are share boards, platters and a $55 per person shared set menu. Drinks can be a standard package from $53 per person for two hours or a premium one from $65, a bar tab with a limit you set, or a cash bar. Most dietary needs can be met with notice, cakes come with no cakeage fee, and bucks, hens, 18th and 21st parties are all welcome.

How many people fit in The Canopy?
The Canopy takes up to 150 guests cocktail style or 60 seated. For smaller groups the Sunrise lounge holds 30, and for larger ones the Garden Bar, Level 1 or the whole ground floor can be booked exclusively.
What are the canapé packages?
Bronze is $50 per person for two cold, two hot and one substantial item, Silver is $60 per person and Gold is $75 per person with a cheese and charcuterie station. Canapé packages need at least 15 guests, and a churros dessert can be added for $5 per person.
What drinks options are there?
The standard package is $53 per person for two hours, $68 for three and $81 for four. Premium is $65, $78 or $93. You can also run a bar tab with a set limit that can be topped up, or let guests buy their own drinks from a cash bar.
Does The Canopy have AV?
Yes. The room has its own AV system and a screen, as well as its own bar, bathrooms and a balcony.
Can we bring a cake or decorations?
Cakes are welcome, with no cakeage fee to pay. Decorations are fine as long as they are not messy and don't disturb other patrons.

What’s not to love about our local sheaf. The food is consistently good for pub food, good variety on the menu, and you can’t beat a good Sunday session with live music. Great pub to relax at and never disappoints.

August 2025 I stopped at The Golden Sheaf for a casual dinner on a quiet Wednesday night and didn’t regret it. On the chilly evening, it was warm and cozy inside. The service was friendly, and the food was delicious.
