About Catalina
Catalina is a seafood-focused restaurant in Lyne Park, Rose Bay, set over the water next to the Rose Bay ferry wharf. The McMahon family opened it in 1994 and still runs it, with two generations of the family in the business, and it trades for lunch every day and dinner from Monday to Saturday. The building curves around the bay, and floor-to-ceiling windows mean every seat in the open dining room faces the harbour, with yachts, ferries and seaplanes in view. A balcony runs along the water and houses the bar, which is where arrival drinks and oyster stations go during events. There is no separate private dining room: groups are seated in the main room, and for larger events the whole restaurant is taken over. Exclusive hire takes up to about 150 seated or 300 for a cocktail party, depending on styling and staging. Groups of 11 to 19 order from a three-course fixed-price menu at $160 per person, and groups of 20 to 40 book a private party with a $250 per person minimum spend covering food and drinks. Exclusive events carry a minimum spend that changes with the date and season, and there is no room hire fee on top. Cocktail parties choose from a canapé list of seafood, meat and vegetarian bites, while seated events come with a complimentary menu tasting ahead of the day. Catalina is fully licensed with no BYO, and a 10% service fee applies to groups.
