Side Bar is a late-night club at 509 Pitt Street in Haymarket, across the road from Central Station at the southern end of the city. It has been trading since 2001, opens at 4pm every day and runs into the early hours, with resident DJs seven nights a week, a dancefloor and a weekly line-up of theme nights. For a function you can take over the entire club for an exclusive event, or book a large roped-off section with its own bollards, signage and dedicated security. The team handles groups from about ten guests to more than 300, and pitches the space at staff parties, end-of-financial-year drinks, Christmas parties and hens nights. Themes can be added to a booking, including a mechanical bull rodeo, a UV party with makeup artists, foam, circus games and karaoke, as well as a DJ and saxophone duo. Food is ordered by the piece or platter: arancini, skewers and sliders from $5.50 to $8 each, platters of fries, wings and calamari, and pizzas from $20. A beer and wine package is $49 per person for two hours or $64 for three, with house spirits, select beers or a cocktail bucket on arrival as extras, or you can run a bar tab with a spending cap. Organisers can put their own visuals on the LED screen behind the DJ booth, pick the music and use the microphone, projector and lighting, and the team can book a photographer or videographer. Groups of 30 or more plan their night by email with the venue.
