About Private Dining Room @ Tanuki

Tanuki is a modern Japanese izakaya and bar at 37 Bay Street in Double Bay, with a raw bar, a robata grill, an internal courtyard under a retractable roof and a lounge that turns into a late-night dining room. The kitchen is led by chef Ken Wee Lee, and the wine and sake list leans towards natural, organic and boutique producers. The Private Dining Room sits next to The Lounge at the back of the venue, a secluded courtyard room built around a tree that grows up through its glass roof. Designers Matters + Made hung linen fabrics in earthy tones at different heights across the ceiling, and soft lighting keeps it intimate. It seats 14 at one long table or holds 25 standing, and a TV and AV setup can be arranged for speeches, presentations or slideshows. The team suggests it for corporate lunches and dinners, birthdays, engagement parties and hens events, and larger groups can move to the Main Dining Room, The Lounge, Upstairs or the whole venue. Food runs as a set menu or a canapé package. The Ozeki set menu is $90 per person and the Yokozuna $125 per person with Australian wagyu, while canapé packages cost $70, $85 or $110 per person, and you can build your own canapé selection priced per piece. Seafood and oyster stations can be added. Beverage packages start from $65 per person for a classic selection, $90 for premium and $200 for deluxe with Champagne. Canapé packages are $70, $85 and $110 per person, and set menus are $90 (Ozeki) and $125 (Yokozuna) per person. Custom canapés are priced per piece, from $6 per person for small items to $14 for large ones. A seafood station is $30 per person and an oyster station $35 per person, each for 25 guests or more. Beverage packages start from $65, $90 and $200 per person. Minimum spends are tailored to each booking, and a 10 percent service charge applies to all events.

Food

The set menus feature edamame, salmon tataki, sushi, chicken karaage and steak, or wagyu tartare, nigiri, scallop and prawn toast and MB9+ wagyu at the higher level. Canapé packages include oysters, kingfish sashimi, spicy tuna rolls, karaage, poke bowls and fried rice, with cheesecake or mochi to finish.

Beverages

Beverage packages are chosen by the sommelier: Classic from $65 per person with sparkling, sauvignon blanc, rosé and shiraz; Premium from $90 per person with a wider list; and Deluxe from $200 per person with Champagne and five wines from regions such as Chablis, Sancerre and Bordeaux. The events team can tailor extra drinks options.
