About Mr Watkins

Mr Watkins sits on High Street in the middle of Penrith and has been trading since December 2017. By day it runs as a café pouring Allpress coffee alongside breakfast, lunch, house-baked muffins and bread pies. After dark the bar opens only for ticketed events, such as live music, burlesque, trivia and dining nights, and for private functions. The interior, by Juicy Design, is styled as the library of Captain Watkin Tench, the 18th-century explorer the bar is named after. Guests settle into booths or leather chesterfield lounges among bookshelves and low pendant lights. The venue offers full or partial book-outs seven days a week and has hosted birthdays, engagements, weddings, baby showers and corporate events. It doesn't publish room capacities or function prices; the team works to a range of budgets, so enquire with your numbers and preferred date. Chefs Rod Parbery and Wayne Jenkins cook classic dishes and more adventurous plates designed for sharing, and the bar list runs to more than 70 cocktails, both classics and house creations, alongside beer, wine and a broad spirits range. The bartenders will mix off-menu drinks on request. Mr Watkins also runs a separate catering service for events held at home or elsewhere.
