About Level One @ The Nelson Hotel
The Nelson Hotel opened in September 1938 where Oxford Street meets Nelson Street, between Bondi Junction and Woollahra, and the Richardson family has run it for more than three decades. Downstairs keeps its original island public bar, an art deco saloon bar, a bistro and a rustic beer garden. Level One is the pub's upstairs floor and the space it hires out exclusively. It has a private street entrance, its own bar and a balcony, along with a darts room, a sports lounge with five screens and a projector, and a sunlit dining room with a long hand-made table. The fit-out leans on the building's interwar history, with textured finishes and cosy corners. Exclusive use suits 50 to 80 guests in a cocktail setting, and there is an in-house PA and projector for speeches. The floor is not reached by a lift, and no under-18s are allowed upstairs at any time. Exclusive functions carry a $5,500 minimum spend with at least 50 guests. Canapé packages cost $45, $55 or $65 per person for six, eight or ten choices, and shared platters of sliders, arancini, squid and party pies can be added. The standard drinks package of tap beer, house wine and soft drinks is $59 per person for two hours, or you can run a consumption tab with a spend or time limit, followed by a cash bar. The balcony closes at 11pm, last drinks are at 11.20pm and guests leave Level One by midnight.
