About Esteban
Esteban is a Mexican restaurant and bar at 1 Temperance Lane in the Sydney CBD, entered from the George Street mall between George and York Streets and close to the light rail. The kitchen works through regional Mexican dishes with a modern Australian slant, cooking over wood and charcoal on a parrilla grill and pressing its corn tortillas by hand, and the bar carries a deep list of tequila and mezcal. The restaurant is split across two levels and each can be booked for private use. The Upper Dining Room on the raised ground floor seats 24 under high ceilings and brick archways, looks into the open kitchen and grill, and has no through traffic. The Basement Dining Room and Bar seats 40 in booths and long banquettes, with a full bar and space to wander over and browse the spirits. Taking the whole venue gives you both levels plus private use of the tables out in Temperance Lane, seating 70. Groups eat from four-course banquet menus served to share and portioned for the size of the party. The Chef's Menu is $105 per person, with ceviche tacos, pork belly in mole verde and a half lamb shoulder with birria consommé, and the Premium Chef's Menu is $140 per person, adding dishes such as wagyu picanha and a steak tartare taco. Both can be adapted for vegetarian, pescatarian, gluten free and dairy free guests. The classic drinks package is $65 per person for two hours of sparkling, wine, beer and soft drinks, and the premium package is $90 per person with a margarita on arrival, house spirits and better wines.
