Cruising Yacht Club of Australia

About Cruising Yacht Club of Australia

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia sits on the Rushcutters Bay foreshore at 1 New Beach Road, Darling Point, about three kilometres from the CBD. Best known as the club behind the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, it also runs a busy events business, and its function rooms are booked by the public for weddings, private celebrations and corporate events, handled by a dedicated events team. There are five spaces, all looking across the marina and the harbour. The Freya Room seats 84 or holds 125 for cocktails, and the smaller Morna Room seats 30 or takes 50 standing. Open the two together and you get 120 seated or 200 for a cocktail party, the largest set-up in the building. The Rani Room works for cocktail events of up to 60, the Members Bar can be used for cocktails on request, and a training room suits 20 around a boardroom table. A deck and terrace sit alongside, and the marina is fair game for photos. Guests can even arrive or leave by boat with some notice. All catering and drinks come from the club itself; outside caterers aren't used, though a few special bottles may be allowed for a small corkage fee. Beverage packages can be upgraded with premium wine, cocktails and spirits, or drinks can run on consumption, and canapés can replace an entrée at no extra cost. A dance floor can be set up and live music is permitted, with events finishing at midnight. Lifts and accessible bathrooms are available. The club also runs corporate sailing on its fleet of Elliott 7m keelboats, which can be paired with a function in the clubhouse.
