About Backyard Beer Garden @ Public House Petersham

Public House Petersham is a big, easygoing local at 292 Stanmore Road, within walking distance of both Stanmore and Petersham stations. Beyond the front bar there is a sports room, an upstairs lounge with a wrap-around balcony, a backyard bar and a large beer garden out the back. The kitchen is built around a wood-fired pizza oven and turns out Mediterranean-style share plates, and dogs are welcome inside and out. The Backyard Beer Garden is the pub's largest outdoor function area. It is set with long picnic-style tables under broad umbrellas, which suits a feast or a long lunch, and it can be booked in sections: roughly 30 to 40 guests in the smallest, 60 in the next and up to 100 for the full garden. It is semi-private, so you get your own stretch of the garden while the rest of the pub carries on. For other formats, the Upstairs Lounge and Balcony takes up to 120 and the indoor-outdoor Backyard Bar suits 30 to 50. Canapé packages start at $48 per person for six pieces, rising to $58 for eight and $73 for ten, each with a minimum of 20 guests; the larger two include substantial bites such as sliders, prawn rolls and pasta. Wood-fired pizzas and grazing platters can be ordered too. Drinks come as Standard, Premium or Deluxe packages for two to four hours, or you can set up a bar tab or a cash bar. The events team can also help with styling and outside suppliers.

No room hire or minimum spend is published. Canapé packages are $48 per person for six pieces, $58 for eight and $73 for ten, with a minimum of 20 guests. Add-ons are $8 a canapé, $12.50 a substantial and $8.75 for dessert. Wood-fired pizzas are $23 to $28 each and platters $130 to $140. Drinks packages run from $48 per person for two hours to $98 per person for four hours.

Food

Canapés include mushroom and gorgonzola tart, oysters, cured salmon blini, pumpkin arancini, polenta chips with truffle aioli, zucchini flowers, calamari and chicken skewers. Substantial bites include cheeseburger, chicken and mushroom sliders, prawn rolls, chicken Caesar, lamb tortellini and pasta. Wood-fired pizzas, vegan, cheese and salumi platters, and dessert canapés such as brownies, churros and lemon tart are also available. Dietary options are marked on the menu.

Beverages

Standard ($48 to $75 per person) covers sparkling, white, rosé and red wine, beer, cider and soft drinks. Premium ($59 to $87) and Deluxe ($71 to $98) step up the wine list, including prosecco and Chandon on Deluxe. A bar tab with a limit you control, or a cash bar, are the alternatives.

Up to 100 when you book the whole garden. It can also be booked in smaller sections of about 30 to 40 or 60 guests.

How much are the canapé packages?

Six pieces are $48 per person, eight pieces (seven canapés and one substantial) are $58, and ten pieces (eight canapés and two substantials) are $73. There is a minimum order of 20. Extra canapés are $8 a piece and extra substantials $12.50.

What drinks packages are available?

Standard is $48, $61 or $75 per person for two, three or four hours; Premium is $59, $73 or $87; Deluxe is $71, $84 or $98. You can also run a bar tab with a set limit or let guests pay for their own drinks.

Is the garden wheelchair accessible?

Yes. The backyard garden can be reached through the car park, which has around seven spaces including accessible parking, and the pub has ramp access to the public bar.

Can we bring a cake and our dog?

Cakes are welcome with no cakeage fee, and decorations are fine if they are not messy. Dogs are allowed everywhere in the pub, inside and outside.
