About Anchor Bar @ The Rag & Famish

The Rag & Famish is a heritage hotel at 199 Miller Street in North Sydney that has been pouring beers since 1860. Downstairs is the everyday pub; the functions action happens on Level 1, known as the Anchor Bar level, which has plenty of old-fashioned character in its timber, leather and fireplaces. Booked exclusively, the Anchor Bar level holds about 150 people cocktail-style or 80 seated. It brings together the Captain's Cabin dining room (40 standing, 20 seated), Miller's Lounge (30 standing), the Private Dining Room (up to 25 seated) and the landing, along with the balcony, a private bar, the pool tables and AV including a private music setup, TVs and a microphone. Smaller areas can be booked on their own for semi-exclusive events during the week, while full-level exclusive hire is offered on weekends. Catering covers canapé packs with a minimum of 20 guests, two- or three-course banquet menus for groups of 12 or more, pizzas, platters and a grazing station at $35 per person. Drinks run as a Classic package from $50 per person for two hours or a more premium package from $60, with a pre-paid bar tab as an alternative; BYO is not accepted. A minimum spend is agreed at booking, a 25% deposit holds the date and final numbers are due 14 days before. The level has no disability access, and the venue does not take 18th birthdays, formals or formal after-parties.

The best pork roast dinner I’ve had in Sydney and I’ve been to 5 other places out east . The pork was cooked perfectly, moist with a small fat cap and crackling, the combo of roast veges was a perfect accompaniment. I us…

This place hasn’t changed since I was last here in 2005 and probably not for decades before that. A rarity in Sydney these days, an old school pub that hasn’t succumbed to the corporate overlords like so many others. Cu…

If you are as salty as me you'll love this pub. It's almost a North Sydney establishment. About 150 years old. I also love the craft beers on tap. There's a great selection to choose from, and the staff are always happy…
