About Sydney Creative
Sydney Creative is a hands-on craft studio on Regent Street in Redfern, painted head to toe in pink. Founder Sophie trained in textile design in the UK, began teaching sewing one-on-one after moving to Sydney, and later opened the Redfern shopfront. She writes every class on the program and trains the teachers who run them. Paint and sip is where most groups start. Instead of copying a finished picture stroke by stroke, guests learn to lay down an ombre background and build raised petals or waves with a palette knife, practising on a plate before moving to a 12 by 16 inch canvas. Private parties book out the whole studio for two hours with a lead teacher plus a backup, and cover hens, birthdays, baby showers and team events. Hens bookings come with a bride-to-be banner, a peacock chair, flowers on the table and a small gift for the bride. Drinks and food are BYO, and the studio supplies wine glasses or flutes, a 124 litre bar fridge, grazing boards and control of the music. Painting is only one option. Groups can also make candles and reed diffusers, cast Jesmonite trays and coasters, shape polymer clay earrings, pour soap or try silversmithing, and a cheekier casting class is offered for hens. Team events run in the studio or at your office, and the crew can bring a workshop to a home or holiday rental. Paintings take one to three days to dry, so many guests leave them to collect later.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a private paint and sip party?
The textured painting party starts from $75 a head for a two-hour private booking. Private events are priced on a minimum of 10 guests, and the studio fits up to 30.
Can we bring our own drinks and food?
Yes. Beer, wine, bubbles, pre-mixed cans and soft drinks are all fine, but straight spirits are not. Food of any kind is welcome, ideally packed in catering boxes, and glasses, plates and a bar fridge are provided.
Is there an age limit?
Public classes are for adults 18 and over. Private hens groups can include teens aged 13 and up, but children under 13, babies and prams can't come into the studio.
Can we take our paintings home on the day?
You can, with care, although textured paint needs one to three days to dry fully. Many groups leave their canvases behind, and the studio holds them for 30 days for pickup.
Where do we park and is the studio accessible?
Regent Street parking is unrestricted after 6pm on weekdays and all day on Sundays, and Cope Street often has free spots. There are steps at the entrance and a narrow bathroom, so it isn't wheelchair accessible.
