Hustle Studios fills the first and second floors of a heritage-listed terrace on Elizabeth Street in Surry Hills, a short walk from Central Station, with the door around the corner on Rutland Street. The rooms mix retro and vintage furniture and double as meeting space, a function venue and a workshop studio. Its private workshop program, called Classes with Glasses, is built around BYO drinks. Painting leads the list. Artist Liz H Lovell runs a relaxed acrylic on canvas class for 10 to 20 people, where guests can paint from a still life, a landscape, a pet photo or each other, with a life model option available. Chelsey Teale takes a glow-in-the-dark UV paint pouring class that ends with a 30 by 30 centimetre fluoro canvas, and the Paint and Plant class has guests decorate a pot and fill it with succulents or cacti, which works for groups as small as four. There are also watercolour and drawing classes, clay dishes pressed with flowers, clay planters, resin coasters and pots, and fresh flower crowns. Every class is a private group booking arranged by email, and guests can bring food as well as drinks. For hens parties and bridal showers that just need a space, the rooms can be hired on a self-service basis for up to 30 people, with a full-service option available. Note that the studio is up a flight of stairs and pets are often around.
