About Sydney Cooking School

Sydney Cooking School was set up by executive chef Brett Deverall, who spent decades in restaurant kitchens in Western Australia, London, Paris and Sydney before turning to teaching. The Neutral Bay premises has two kitchen classrooms, an alfresco dining space for barbecues and an open-air grilling area, all fitted with domestic appliances so the skills carry straight over to a home kitchen. The public timetable covers more than 30 classes, from Thai curries, dumplings and pasta to American barbecue, pastry and bread. For celebrations, groups of 10 or more can book a private class around a cuisine of their choice, or design their own menu with the team. Everyone gets involved in the cooking, then sits down to share the meal, and BYO is complimentary on private events. Hens parties often go for brunch with bubbles, a make-your-own high tea or Mexican with margaritas, while bucks groups tend towards beer and barbecue. Private dinner parties on Friday to Sunday evenings can be hands-on, or a five-course dinner cooked and served by a chef. Corporate groups can book team building ranging from a relaxed class to a cook-off challenge, and the venue can host up to 50 guests at once across its spaces. For bigger teams or other locations, the mobile cooking school brings the equipment and ingredients to you, and chefs also run healthy cooking demonstrations in offices. Kids aged 6 to 12 can have a cooking birthday party, making three items and finishing with a candle moment over the dessert. Street parking is available nearby.
