About Roving Larder Cooking School

Roving Larder is a cooking school tucked into the Barracks Precinct at North Head, above Manly, surrounded by bushland and heritage buildings. It was founded by Marie Clément, a French-born chef whose background runs through patisserie, fine dining and food education. The venue has a commercial kitchen, one very large central island and a communal dining room with a French feel, and the idea behind every booking is simple: cook as a group, then eat together. The core offering for celebrations and teams is the Cook & Dine. Under a chef's guidance, guests work in pairs to prepare a three-course menu over roughly two hours, then take their seats for about an hour to eat it, with a welcome drink and wine alongside. Menus include French bistro dishes, Provençal cooking, fresh Tuscan pasta and Sicilian gnocchi, and a festive menu for end-of-year parties. Private bookings for 8 to 30 guests get exclusive use of the school, and the team looks after ingredients, set-up, dietary requests and the clean-up. Companies can choose a quicker two-hour Cook & Connect, where the group makes the main course and the chef supplies an entrée or dessert, or a half or full-day retreat that pairs the meal with activities such as guided walks or workshops. Outside private events, the school runs public classes, school holiday cooking days for teenagers and themed dinner nights. Nobody needs kitchen experience, closed-toe shoes are a must, and there is free parking in the precinct car park.

Frequently asked questions

How many guests can a private event take?

Private and corporate Cook & Dine events are built for 8 to 30 guests, and the school can seat roughly 35 for a festive dinner. Very small or very large groups can ask about other formats.

How much do corporate cooking events cost?

The two-hour Cook & Connect starts at $169 per person, the three-hour Signature Cook & Dine from $199 per person, and half or full-day retreats from $279 per person.

Are drinks included, and can we bring wine?

Most experiences include a welcome drink and wine with the meal. Guests may also bring a bottle of their own, and wine can be bought at the school under responsible service rules.

Can you cater for allergies and dietary requirements?

Many requirements can be met with advance notice, though not every menu suits every diet. The kitchen handles common allergens and keeps no EpiPens, so it cannot promise an allergen-free space.

Where do we park?

Follow Bluefish Drive up to the free car park at the Barracks Precinct, off Gunner Road. Use the long-term bays; the school is Building 2 at the far end of the car park.
