About Ceremonies by Cath
Ceremonies by Cath is Cath Flavell, a civil marriage celebrant working from Wattle Grove in south-west Sydney. Appointed in 2007, she spent five years on the executive of a national celebrant association and holds Certificate IV qualifications in celebrancy and in training and assessment, which she uses to mentor other celebrants. Before celebrancy she worked in public relations and events in banking and then in the bridal industry. She writes each ceremony to suit the couple, from formal and elegant to relaxed and light-hearted, and encourages couples to shape the script with her. Ceremonies average 15 to 20 minutes but can run as long as you like. Cath has Chinese heritage and speaks Cantonese, which she can weave into a ceremony, and she has offered couples a traditional Chinese tea ceremony as part of the day. Dogs as ring bearers, interpreters and overseas witnesses are all things she has handled. For couples on a budget or planning an elopement, her private ceremony room in Wattle Grove hosts registry-style weddings with just two witnesses or close family, with no wait at the registry office. Beyond weddings she conducts renewal of vows and commitment ceremonies. She has married couples on the Central Coast, in the Hunter Valley, Wollongong, the Southern Highlands and Canberra, with a travel fee worked out on distance.
