About Great Northern Hotel Newcastle

The Great Northern Hotel stands on Scott Street in Newcastle's East End. The present building opened in 1938 on a site that has carried a hotel of the same name since 1863, and its Art Deco features have been restored, with live entertainment back at the heart of the pub. It runs a bistro seven days, a sports bar with big screens, a pool table and TAB, and live bands on Friday and Saturday nights. There are two areas for private events. The Lounge and Foyer sits in the middle of the hotel, furnished in a lush, period style with original details, and holds 100 for a cocktail party or 60 seated. It can be shut off completely for a private function, or part of it can be set aside for a more casual get-together. The Jantzen is a large booth area at the back of the restaurant with its own access to the side bar; it is roped off for your group, takes 70 standing or 40 seated, and looks straight onto the live music. Food and drinks are arranged with the functions team, who shape packages around the event. For daytime corporate bookings, packages start at $25 per person and include exclusive use of the foyer, Wi-Fi, a PA system and projector, sandwiches and wraps, seasonal fruit platters and mini muffins and pastries, with beverage packages available on top. Evening parties can draw on the bistro's share plates, platters and pub classics, and the bar mixes a full cocktail list.
