About Customs House Hotel
Customs House Hotel occupies the heritage-listed former customs building on Bond Street, on Newcastle's harbour foreshore. Designed by James Barnet in the Italianate style, it now runs as a modern pub with a ground-floor restaurant and bar, a beer garden beside the fountain and courtyard, and a series of function rooms upstairs. The largest is Customs Hall, an open room for 200 at a cocktail party or 120 seated, with an ornate marble fireplace, a bar overlooking the harbour, air conditioning, an in-house sound system, a wireless microphone and the option of a dance floor. The Harbourmasters Lounge has high ceilings, timber floors, harbour-facing windows, a private bar and its own sound system, for 60 standing or 40 seated. The Long Room seats 40, the Collectors Room (with a bay window over the beer garden) and the Examiners Room each seat 20, and tables in the Old Pool Room can be reserved for up to 30 for three hours. Note that the upstairs rooms have no disabled access. Catering options include canapé parties of two, three or four hours, alternate-drop dinners, a share-style feast, grazing tables and platters. Drinks can run as a package, a bar tab with a set limit, or a cash bar. The venue hosts weddings, engagement parties, milestone birthdays, intimate dinners, end-of-year events and corporate days, with an event planner to help.
