About Bartholomew's
Bartholomew's is a bar and restaurant at 145 King Street, Newcastle, inside a heritage-listed former Methodist mission theatre. The interior leans into the 1920s: chandeliers, candlelight, velvet textures, a tiered mezzanine and a back bar stocked with one of the country's largest collections of whisky, gin and wine. The kitchen cooks provincial European food for sharing. The venue has four areas that can be booked for events, up to 450 guests in total. The Mezzanine is a private upstairs space with its own bar and views over the main room, taking up to 150 for a cocktail party; upstairs bookings need at least 30 people, and taking the whole upstairs exclusively needs 120. The ground floor holds up to 300 with booth seating and several layouts, and it is available for private functions on Mondays and Tuesdays. The whole venue can be hired by negotiation, though not on Friday or Saturday nights. Room hire is free; groups of 30 to 50 spend at least $300 on the function menu and larger groups $500. Catering ranges from platters and roaming canapés to shared feasts and formal alternate-drop dinners, with grazing, oyster and seafood stations. Drinks can run on a package or a bar tab of any amount. Cocktail masterclasses and whisky or gin tastings can be added, and the venue has its own sound and lighting equipment.

Love the refresh, very chic. Steak main and sides perfect for sharing, and we loved the scallops entree too. Drinks menu always a standout. We will of course be back for all of the above.
