About Royal Melbourne Hotel
The Royal Melbourne Hotel, known as RMH, is a pub at 629 Bourke Street in Melbourne CBD, near Southern Cross Station and Marvel Stadium. It was built in 1889 where the Bourke Street West police station once stood, and the original heritage-listed bluestone cellblock is still part of the venue alongside newer, glass-roofed spaces. There are five function areas that can be used on their own or put together for bigger events. The Atrium is the centre of the pub, a glass-enclosed room with a bar, multiple screens, DJ and PA gear, staging and party lighting. Next to it, the Courtyard is a heated, all-weather outdoor area with retractable awnings and its own bar, holding 120 or more standing or 40 or more for dinner. The Cells is a self-contained room inside the old cellblock with a small bar, AV, private bathrooms and an adjoining lounge, and cell number one works as a private dining room for 10. The Heritage Room takes 50 to 250 guests with a bar, sunken lounge, dance floor, projector, microphone and its own entrance from the street, and the Governors Lounge, behind the red brick facade, fits 100. The function pack covers canapés, platters, set menus for 20 or more and drinks packages of three to five hours, with bar tabs as an alternative. Dietary needs are handled individually. Enquiries go through the form on the website, where you can list the event type, style and guest numbers.
