Builders Arms Hotel is a long-standing pub at 211 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy, close to the Collingwood border. Alongside its public bar and bistro, it keeps two rooms for private events, and the smaller of the two is the Private Dining Room – a space that formed part of the original hotel and has been restored with its character intact. The room looks out through tall windows to the trees along Gertrude and Gore Streets. Inside, a single long table runs down the middle, with white cabinets of glassware and bottles along one wall and a mix of art and odd objects throughout. There is a vintage record player and a library of vinyl, so the group can choose its own soundtrack. The table seats up to 20 guests, and the room holds about 30 for a standing drinks gathering. For game days, the pub sets up its private spaces with their own TVs. Food comes from the pub's kitchen, whose menu changes with the produce and is built around Australian seafood and meat from the grill. For private bookings the events team shapes the dining and drinks to the group and its budget, so lunches, dinners, cocktail-style gatherings and small presentations all work in the room. Parties larger than 14 cannot book online and are steered to this room instead; enquiries go through the pub's event form or by phone to the events team.
