The Plaza Ballroom lies beneath the Regent Theatre at 191 Collins Street, at the Paris end of the street. Built in 1929 and run by Melbourne theatre and events company Marriner Group since 1996, it is reached through a small gated entrance beside the theatre and down a grand staircase into a foyer laid out like a Spanish courtyard, with paved floors and an ornamental fountain. The ballroom itself is a large open room with high ceilings, Spanish Rococo detailing, Juliet balconies, original chandeliers and custom lighting. That open floor lets it handle corporate functions from 200 to 1,200 guests, set up for gala dinners, presentation nights, cocktail functions, lunches or presentations. Wedding receptions run from 150 to 450 guests, with a range of table layouts and room for a large dance floor. Lift access is available on request at the Collins Street entrance, ramps lead from the foyer to the ballroom floor and accessible toilets sit off the foyer. Catering is in-house, cooked by the Marriner Group kitchen and served by the venue's own staff, and a dedicated events team manages each booking from first enquiry to the night itself. Wedding packages are all-inclusive, starting at $240 per person for summer (January and February) and April dates and $245 per person in winter (June and July). Corporate and Christmas functions are quoted on enquiry. Preferred rates are available at nearby Wilson car parks.
